The steps we took to set up our C-TPAT program:

1) We reviewed the information Customs has posted to their website on C-TPAT.

2) We reviewed the C-TPAT Security Criteria for our supply chain element and determined where we met and did not meet the guidelines. Where we did not meet the C-TPAT guidelines, we developed an Action Plan to address the deficiencies.

3) If they were eligible to participate, we determined if our Business Partners were C-TPAT participants. If they were participants, we requested their SVI number.

4) Where our Business Partners were not eligible to participate in C-TPAT or were eligible, but did not participate, we sent them a Business Partner Questionnaire to establish their baseline security. Where they were deficient, we worked with them to bring them up to standard.

5) We completed the CBP 5 Step Risk Assessment of our supply chain and created an Action Plan to address issues we discovered.

6) We developed a Security Policy which outlines and drives our C-TPAT program.

7) We trained our employees on the basics of C-TPAT and supply chain security.

8) We prepared a C-TPAT Security Profile addressing Custom’s Security Criteria. We used this draft to cut and paste our answers to Customs web portal when completing our application.

9) We completed the on-line C-TPAT application on Customs web portal.
